WORK HISTORY:
Raised in the Western Upper Peninsula, State Representative Mike Lahti graduated from Hancock High School and in 1967 he graduated from Northern Michigan University.
In 1968, Rep. Lahti opened the State Farm insurance agency in Hancock, which he still owns today. Rep. Lahti also is a real-estate developer and small-business owner with various residential and commercial properties and businesses in the Keweenaw.
GOVERNMENT EXPERIENCE:
In 1994, Rep. Lahti was elected to the Hancock School Board, where he served for seven years. That same year, he joined the Board of Trustees at Finlandia University, where he currently serves as vice chair.
In 2000, Rep. Lahti was elected to the Houghton County Board of Commissioners. He served as chairman for the past six years.
FAMILY:
Rep. Lahti and his wife, Sharon, have six children and seven grandchildren.
