LANSING – State Representative Mike Lahti (D-Hancock) today applauded the passage of his plan on Wednesday that will require all official depictions of the state of Michigan to include both the Upper and Lower peninsulas.
"I realize there are some other tough decisions that have to be made in this state, but this plan is necessary to remind state offices that the U.P. should not be 'left off the map' when promoting our state as a place to bring your business and as a place to visit as a tourist," Lahti said. "Our state is benefiting from these promotions and the U.P. should reap the rewards as well."
Lahti's plan requires any illustration, image or depiction of the state of Michigan on a publication or item produced by a department or agency of this state to include both the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula of this state. The items will include maps, forms, brochures, pamphlets, commemorative items and Internet images produced by any state department or agency.
"The U.P. is a vital part of the Great Lakes state," Lahti said. "We are home to four great universities, two community colleges and mining, timber, agriculture, tourism and the growing high tech industry that are great job creators and good for the state."
