LANSING – State Representative Mike Lahti (D-Hancock) today applauded the awarding of a $3.1 million state tax credit to CertainTeed Ceilings Corp. in L'Anse to expand its existing facilities.
"This is great news for the U.P.," Lahti said. "Thanks to such quick action by the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC), hundreds of U.P. jobs are safe, and a quality U.P. company can grow. In order to get Michigan's economy back on track, we have to make sure that our workers have access to good-paying jobs. This is a great example of how we can help Michigan businesses flourish, and create the jobs Michigan workers need."
CertainTeed Ceilings Corp., a manufacturer and global distributor of acoustical ceiling systems, plans to invest $7.6 million to relocate operations from Mississippi to its facility in L'Anse. The move will retain at least 271 Michigan jobs by 2021, including 109 directly at the company. The MEDC approved the 100 percent retention employment tax credit on Thursday.
"I applaud the leaders of this company for investing in our community and recognizing that Michigan has some of the most talented workers around," Lahti said. "Our hard-working men and women deserve the benefits."
