LANSING – State Representative Mike Lahti (D-Hancock) on Wednesday voted in favor of a plan that gives $200,000 in federal stimulus dollars the Gogebic-Iron County Airport in Ironwood to construct a new terminal. The plan passed the House and now goes to the Senate.
"It is vital to keep our airports in top-notch condition for those traveling to and from the U.P.," Lahti said. "Bringing visitors into our state and making it easier for companies to do business here, will help turn our economy around during these tough times. This is great news for the U.P."
The $200,000 in federal funding will be used in the construction of a new commercial service terminal building. These funds will cover the foundation and septic work.
"This stimulus funding will help create jobs for our hard-working residents," Lahti said. "I will continue to work to make sure the U.P gets its fair share of federal stimulus dollars so we an make our community and state a great place to live, work, do business and raise a family."
