LANSING – State Representative Mike Lahti (D-Hancock) today announced that Extreme Tool and Engineering in Wakefield has been recognized as one of the 50 fastest-growing small businesses in Michigan by Michigan Celebrates Small Business, the state's premier awards ceremony for entrepreneurs and small business leaders.
"I want to congratulate Extreme Tool for the recognition they have received and the great work that they do," Lahti said. "Because of them, more Western Upper Peninsula residents have good-paying jobs that allow them to put food on the table, pay their mortgages and put their kids through college. They are truly a great asset for our region."
Extreme Tool and Engineering is a plastic product development company based in Wakefield. Extreme Tool has 38 employees and serves customers in four primary markets: medical, electronics, automotive, and consumer goods.
According to officials, Extreme Tool received the award due to its steady growth in revenue and hiring; its solid relationships with its employees and customers; and its proven ability to thrive in a remote location.
"This award shows that small businesses can thrive and prosper in the Upper Peninsula, and I hope it will encourage other entrepreneurs throughout our region to start their own companies," Lahti said.
