LANSING – State Representative Mike Lahti (D-Hancock) today hailed the news that construction of the Bergland Dock Boating Access Site on Lake Gogebic in Ontonagon County is now complete.
"This project started with a call from a U.P. resident who was concerned about the conditions of the boat launch," Lahti said. "I immediately began working with the Department of Natural Resources to see how we could improve this popular lake access site. It is vital that we keep infrastructure like this in top-notch condition if we want to continue to attract boaters, anglers and visitors to our streams and lakes."
The project, which began in July, was finished earlier this month. The new site includes a
36-foot wide by 70-foot long ramp and a 5-foot wide by 30-foot long universally accessible pier. The access also
includes a vault toilet and two parking places that are Americans with Disabilities Act compliant.
The project was funded through the Michigan State Waterways Fund, which is supported through boat registration fees and a portion of the Michigan marine fuel tax for the construction, operation and maintenance of recreational boating facilities, harbors and inland waterways.
