LANSING - State Representative Mike Lahti (D-Hancock) announced today that the western Upper Peninsula counties of Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon will benefit from $550,000 in funds for low-income housing through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).
The federal grant funds, released through MSHDA's Housing Resource Fund, will be utilized in homeowner rehabilitation projects in the four counties. Twenty-three owner-occupied homes will be rehabilitated through this round of grants, allowing for much-needed renovations and improvements to low-income housing sites.
"The MSHDA housing rehabilitation grants play an important role in our communities," said Lahti. "I am pleased to see that the western U.P. received its fair share of these much-needed funds. They are critically important to improving the living conditions and quality of life for the citizens of the 110th District."
The 2007 MSHDA Housing Resource Fund grants to the western U.P. are broken down by county as follows:
Baraga $125,000
Houghton $200,000
Keweenaw $100,000
Ontonagon $125,000
