LANSING – State Representative Mike Lahti (D-Hancock) today was officially sworn in as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives for the 2007-2008 legislative session. The outgoing Clerk of the House of Representatives, Gary Randall, administered the oath of office to Rep. Lahti at a 12:00 P.M. ceremony today, the Opening Day of the State of Michigan's 94th Legislature.
"I am excited to begin serving the 110th District in the Michigan House of Representatives," said Lahti. "The state is facing major challenges over the next two years, and I am ready to begin work with my colleagues in finding solutions. I thank the citizens of the 110th District for the honor of allowing me to represent them in Lansing."
Rep. Lahti is succeeding the term-limited former Rep. Rich Brown (D-Bessemer), who today was sworn in as Clerk of the Michigan House of Representatives. Brown assumes the Clerk's duties from Randall, who will stay on as an assistant clerk in Brown's office.
"Today marks the beginning of a new era in the Michigan House of Representatives, and I am confident that under the leadership of Speaker of the House Andy Dillon (D-Redford) Democrats and Republicans can work together to enact good public policy that will make the State of Michigan a better place to live, work, and raise a family," commented Lahti.
Rep. Lahti represents the 110th House District, which includes Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties, along with Powell Township in Marquette County.
