LANSING - State Representative Mike Lahti (D-Hancock) today announced that a hearing of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural Resources will be held in the Houghton High School auditorium on Friday, June 8 at 4:00 p.m.
Rep. Lahti, who is chairman of the subcommittee, has scheduled the hearing in order to provide the public with an opportunity to take part in a Department of Natural Resources presentation on the hunting and fishing license fee bills, House Bill 4624 and Senate Bill 406. An opportunity for public comment and a question and answer session with representatives from the DNR will take place following the presentation.
"I encourage people to come out and take part in the ongoing discussion regarding the funding of DNR programs and conservation in Michigan," said Lahti. "It is important that public comment and input be heard, because it is an extremely valuable part of the decision-making process. Holding this hearing in Houghton will provide a voice and a direct line to the DNR for those who otherwise wouldn't have had their concerns heard."
The Houghton meeting of the Natural Resources Subcommittee is the first of three Upper Peninsula and northern Michigan hearings on the proposed hunting and fishing license fee bills. Rep. Lahti will also be conducting hearings on June 18 in Cadillac and, tentatively, June 25 in St. Ignace.
